Sequrin Technologies

Healthcare claims integrity and investigation technology

Founder & Technical Lead

Sequrin develops technology for South African medical schemes to identify claims and provider patterns associated with fraud, waste and abuse, prioritise cases for review and support structured investigation workflows.

Problem

Medical schemes process large volumes of claims while investigation capacity is finite. Suspicious behaviour can be distributed across providers, members, tariff codes and time, which makes prioritisation and investigation difficult.

What I built

Sequrin is being built as an end-to-end claims integrity system that combines claims ingestion, data-quality checks, rule and model-based risk signalling, explanations, case prioritisation and investigator-led review in one auditable workflow.

Methods

  • Claims ingestion, normalisation and data-quality checks
  • Rule-based and statistical risk signalling
  • Peer-comparison and behavioural pattern analysis
  • Explainable signal presentation for authorised scheme personnel
  • Investigator-led case workflow with state and audit trail
  • Versioning and review of detection logic and model changes

Technical architecture

  • React front end for scheme-side investigation and review
  • Python services for ingestion, detection and scoring
  • Cloud infrastructure with tenant isolation
  • Audit logging across signal generation and investigator action
  • Privacy controls built into data access and workflow design

Research context

  • Development and controlled testing currently use synthetic claims environments.

What I’m learning

The hardest part has not only been technical. I am naturally reserved, and I was used to bringing people a finished product before asking for their input. Building Sequrin is teaching me to reach out earlier, share work while it is still unfinished, and let other people help shape the questions. I am learning to make my work heard without having to become someone else.
