03 / My story
I started with mathematics and uncertainty. Building software gave me another way to explore both. Today, I bring those ways of thinking together.

My background is in actuarial science, and I am currently completing my BSc Honours in Risk Analysis at the University of the Free State. I am interested in what mathematics can tell us about uncertainty, and how to turn that into useful tools.
I tend to understand difficult problems by working through them directly. Sometimes that means modelling them. Sometimes it means building the software, workflow or interface around the model so I can see how the whole system behaves.
I have also learned that figuring something out well is not the same as figuring it out alone. Good work improves when assumptions are challenged and someone else can see the question I did not think to ask.

A foundation in actuarial science.
A curiosity that keeps growing.
BSc Actuarial Science, conferred in 2026. Now pursuing Honours in Risk Analysis.
01
Stay with the mathematics, assumptions and uncertainty long enough to understand the problem, not only produce an answer.
02
When implementation changes how a problem is understood, build the model, tool or workflow instead of stopping at the analysis.
03
Independent problem-solving matters, but so does knowing when another perspective can expose a weak assumption or improve the outcome.
A conversation that changed the work
An interview prompt challenged me to show how I think beyond academic projects. A conversation with my mother about medical-aid costs gave me a real-world question to follow. That became Sequrin, and an opportunity to bring my analytical and software skills together.
The hardest part has not only been technical. I am naturally reserved, and I was used to bringing people a finished product before asking for their input. Building Sequrin is teaching me to reach out earlier, share work while it is still unfinished, and let other people help shape the questions. I am learning to make my work heard without having to become someone else.
I’m learning to bring the unfinished work
into the conversation.
